Professional interests: Sustainable food systems, national food security and sovereignty, GMO, nucleic acid based methods, microbiology, ecosystem thinking, One Health, food safety, microbiota, biotechnology, gene technology, legal regulations, development of human resources.
Background from U of Oslo, PhD and postdoc at the intercept between ecology, molecular biology, bioinformatics and taxonomy, with particular emphasis on fungus-plant interactions.
At NVI since 1998, with main responsibility on GMO-issues until 2015. Awarded the NVIs Research Price for 2017. Head of section, Research in Food Safety and Animal Health since 2019. NVIs regional office in Tromsø with particular responsibility for artic challenges incl. food security and the National health service for semidomesticated reindeer is organized under this section.
Experience includes coordination and participation in EU-funded research projects since 1999, a leading role in the development of European and international standards for GMO detection (CEN and ISO; 1999-2006), technical auditor for Sweden's national accreditation body (SWEDAC; 3 yrs) and membership in the Norwegian Biotechnology Advisory Board 2014-2023. Member of the Norwegian Public Committee that produced the Official Norwegian Report (norsk offentlig utredning; NOU) "Gene technology in a sustainable future" (Genteknologi i en bærekraftig fremtid) in June 2023 (NOU 2023:18).
