Microbial diversity, Genomics, Metagenomics, Nanopore sequence analysis.
My background is in microbial ecology. I did my PhD in the Netherlands on unicellular and fillamentous cyanobacteria (blue/green algea) found in the Baltic Sea. That thesis involved work on microbial cultivation and enviromental PCR amplification of both 16s rRNA and photosynthesis genes, where we used these tools to describe the diversity of specific taxa present in the Baltic Sea.
At the Norwegian veterinary institute I work on a variety of microbiome projects analyzing the microbes associated with cows, poultry, fish, etc. For this we use shotgun metagenomics with illumina, as well as nanopore sequence data from single isolates
